



Marietta, Ohio - May 21, 2009 - Both Kelsey Bishop and Cherelle Allen competed in the opening day of the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday. Bishop performed in the hammer throw competition, while Allen competed in the long jump.Bishop finished her steller career at Springfield on Thursday afternoon as she was unable to qualify for the championship final in the hammer throw. The senior recorded a distance of 153-2 (46.68m) on the day, finishing 18th out of 19 competitors. Bishop went into the meet ranked 14th in the event as she qualified with a toss of 50.88m (166-11) earlier this year at the Springfield Invitational.
Allen also was unable to advance to the championship final in the long jump in her first meet on the national level. The first year finished fifth in her flight , and 11th overall, with a distance of 17-7 1/2 (5.37m). She missed advancing by a mere two inches. Allen entered the meet with the 10th longest jump in the country this year, a leap of 5.75m (18-10 1/2). She had reached that distance as she won the long jump at the New England Division III Championships.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
