Price and Cooney Highlight Final Day of NCAA Championships

Moira Price Saturday's Complete Results

Minneapolis, Minn. - March 21, 2009 - Senior Moira Price finished third in the country in the 200 breast and Meg Cooney set a new school record in the 200 backstroke in the final day of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

As a team, the Pride finished 12th out of 72 teams at the NCAA Championships with a score of 95 points. The 12th place finish was the highest for the Springfield College women at the NCAA's since they finished 9th as a team in 1998-99.

Price, the three-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimmer of the Year, finished her illustrious career at Springfield with a third place finish in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:17.82. Arguably the finest swimmer in program history, Price qualified with the fourth-fastest time in the prelims with a time of 2:19.57. Heading into the race, Price was seeded first with the then fastest time in the country, a mark of 2:16.42.

For the second-straight day, Meg Cooney broke a school record as she finished 10th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.20. Cooney broke the old mark set in 2003 by Megan Skinner, who owned the record with a time of 2:03.46. Cooney qualified for the consolation finals as she finished tied for 15th with a time of 2:04.78. Cooney entered the 200 back seeded 14th with a time of 2:04.37.

Springfield's 400 free relay of Kaitlin Reilly, Price, Jaclyn Van Waalwijk, and Caroline Kosciusko also raced and finished with a time 3:37.88. The group had qualified for the event with a time of 3:32.56.

Reilly also swam in the 100 free and recorded a time of 53.10. She had originally swam a time of 52.78 to qualify for the NCAA's.
