Worcester, Mass. - October 26, 2013 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2013-2014 season with a 166-134 victory over host Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield had three swimmers win a pair of events to lead them in the pool.Pat Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) picked up winning time in the 1,000 free (10:29.06) and in the 200 fly (2:04.48), while Jason Scotto (Southbury, Conn.) registered a first-place time of 1:49.97 in the 200 free and a the 100 free in 50.13.
Last year's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rookie of the Year, Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.), won the 100 breast in 1:00.64 and posted a 2:14.46 in the 200 breast for the victory.
John Vatkevich (Wrentham, Mass.) also added first-place points as he touched first in the 500 free in 5:07.17. Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) swept the diving competition after registering a 289.50 on the three-meter and a national-qualifying mark of 273.67 on the one-meter board.
The Pride closed out the meet with a win in the 200 free relay as Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.), Kelly Dullard (Waterbury, Conn.), Normoyle, and Scotto combined for a 1:32.70.
Springfield will compete in a tri-meet at home on Saturday afternoon Coast Guard and URI.
