Omura, Castine Named Field Hockey Captains
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 27, 2002 – Springfield College field hockey coach
Dottie Zenaty named seniors
Elizabeth Omura and
Kelly Castine co-captains for the 2002 season.
Omura, a native of
Connolly, N.Y., tied for fifth on the team in scoring with 11 points (5 goals, 1 assist) while starting in all 26 games for the Pride at forward. Omura, a sports biology major, came through in the clutch with game winning goals against Babson (Sep. 22), Mount Holyoke (Oct. 2), and Southern Maine (Nov. 3).
Castine, a resident of
Greenfield, Mass., was a key reserve playing in 13 of Springfield’s 26 games last fall. The midfielder was a member of the 2000 NCAA Division III Tournament runner-up team. A rehabilitation major, Castine brings leadership and experience to a young squad.
The Pride finished last season with a 19-7 record and won the ECAC Division III Northeast Championship.

After eight years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Sharpe, has continued the SC tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 120-58 record, good for a winning percentage of .674 at the helm of her alma mater.
