SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – October 25, 2007 –The No. 14th ranked Springfield College field hockey team tallied a pair of goals in a 5:19 span in the second half to rally past visiting Trinity College, 2-1, on Thursday evening at Stagg Field.
With the win, the Pride improve to 16-3 on the season while the Bantams fall to 8-5. The game was the regular-season finale for Springfield.
Trinity recorded the first goal of the match when Marisa Shutte slipped a shot past Springfield goalie Emma Kaplan (Ridgefield, Conn.) 4:56 into the contest. Both teams would battle throughout the remaining of the first half, but neither team could muster a tally.
The Pride struck quickly in the second half as Morgan Rein (Mystic, Conn.) knotted the game at a goal apiece when she found the back of the cage 21 seconds into the second stanza. Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) tallied the eventual game winner for Springfield when she finished an Eileen Jenkins (Gorham, Maine) feed at the 29:41.
Julia Kincade (Durham, N.H.) played in the cage for the Pride in the second half and recorded the win for Springfield. Kincade and Kaplan each recorded a save in the match as Trinity put just three shots on goal all game.
The Pride begin its quest to return to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight year as it opens up the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Springfield will host Mount Holyoke in a quarterfinal matchup on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m
