The Pride, which entered the dual meet ranked second in New England and 23rd in the country, held off a late charge to keep the Cadets upset-bid at bay.
After forfeiting the opening bout, SC quickly came back as Jesse Sgaglione and and Joe Ortiz sandwiched major decision victories around a pin from Corey Kozimor at 141 to go up 14-6. NU answered the visiting team’s comeback with a pair of decisions from freshman 157-pounder Nick Smith and freshman 165-pounder Cody Gladstone to cut the lead to 14-12.
The two sides traded decisions, including a win at 174 by Devin Biscaha. Springfield led 17-15 with two matches remaining before the Pride locked up the win with a major decision at 197 pounds by Michael Case.
Springfield will now prepare for the NEWA Duals, which will be hosted in the Springfield College Field House on Sunday.
