Sean Smith Earns Capital One Academic All-District Honors

Sean Smith Springfield, Mass. -- May 6, 2013 -- Sean Smith of the Springfield College baseball team has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team for 2013.

The starting catcher for the Pride, Smith is now eligible for higher academic honors as all First Team recipients advance to the Capital One Academic Team ballot, where first, second, and third team members will be selected later on.

Smith is a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla.. He owns a 3.83 GPA in his sport management major.

Standing at 5-8 and 170 pounds, Smith is considered a strong defensive-minded catcher. In fact, he did not commit an error in 144 total chances throughout the season. He played in 27 of the team's 32 total games, starting 25 of them.

Sean batted .212, collecting 18 hits in 85 at-bats. He scored seven runs, knocking in eight. He finished with three doubles and one home run.

The team finished 14-18 overall, 7-11 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.
