



Springfield, Mass. - September 14, 2009 - After an impressive individual efforts over the weekend, David Birdsall earned NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week accolades, the conference office announced on Monday.Birdsall led the men's cross country team to a solid showing in its opening race of the season. Birdsall won the 5k race at the Smith Invitational on Saturday afternoon to pace the Pride to a second-place finish.
The Madison, Conn. native started his sophomore year off in impressive fashion as he won the race after he crossed the finish line in 16:57.89, nearly seven seconds faster than the next competitor.
Bryan Brown will enter his second season as the head men's cross country coach in the fall of 2012. Brown, who was a former All-American at Springfield College in track, led Springfield to a second-place finish at the NEWMAC Championships a year ago .
