



Providence, R.I. -- October 7, 2010 -- Amy Shaw, Kyla Walgren, Erin Woodbury, and Kristi Maltz all produced wins in singles and doubles play to lead their Springfield College women's team to a 9-0 victory at Rhode Island College today at the RIC Tennis Courts. With the win, SC's second straight, the Pride is now 3-4 on the season.The Anchorwomen fall to 0-11.
Shaw, a senior co-captain from Walpole, Mass., paired with classmate and fellow co-captain Walgren (West Hartford, CT), for an 8-0 shutout win at the top doubles spot, and that set the tone for the match. At No. 2 doubles, it was the pairing of sophomores Erin Woodbury (Yarmouth, Me.) and Siana Green (Pomfret, Conn.) winning 8-1. Then at No. 3 doubles, it was the duo of seniors Kristi Maltz (Waterford, Conn.) and Talya Pessolano (Springfield, Mass.), coming through by a score of 8-3.
Singles winners for the Pride included Shaw, sophomore Sam Carney (Franklin, Mass.), Walgren, Woodbury, sophomore Vanessa Senecal (Seekonk, Mass.), and Maltz. All won their matches in straight sets.
Up next, Springfield will host MIT in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference match at 1:00 pm Saturday at SC's Julius Appleton Courts.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
