Lastra Sets the SC All-Around Record for the Fourth Time This Season as Her Women's Gymnastics Team Defeats MIT, BU

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – February 24, 2007 – Audrey Lastra (New Milford, Conn.) won the all-around with a school-record score of 38.250 to lead her Springfield College women’s gymnastics team to a pair of victories over MIT and Boston University at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. this afternoon.

The final scores were Springfield 184.625, MIT 182.775, and BU 150.975. Springfield is now 8-1 on the season.

Lastra had another great day for the Pride. She broke the Springfield College school all-around record for the fourth time this season, and in the fourth straight meet in which she competed in the all-around. When the season began, the school record had been 37.375 by current senior Keriann Hart (Hanover, Mass.) in 2004. But since then, the record has grown to 37.475 versus Rhode Island College, then to 37.575 versus Ithaca, then 37.825 versus SUNY Cortland, and now 38.250 today.

Lastra won the balance beam with a 9.700, one of the highest scores a Springfield gymnast has scored in any event this season. She also won the uneven parallel bars with a 9.450, sharing that place with Sophia Harrison of MIT. In the floor exercise, she finished second with a 9.600, and in the vault, Lastra placed fourth with a 9.500.

Other winners included Julia Zimmerman of MIT twice -- 9.650 in the vault and 9.750 in the floor exercise.

Others who finished well for Springfield included sophomore Jackie Mazzola (Framingham, Mass.), who placed second in the vault (9.550), sophomore Penelope Bohunko (Wilkes Barre, Pa.), who placed third in the vault (9.525), freshman Alex Ploenes (Fletcher, N.C.) , who placed second in the balance beam (9.500), and Hart, who placed fifth in the beam (9.100).

Others from SC who did well included freshman Jeanna Bradle (New Milford, Conn.), who placed fourth in the bars (9.125) and sixth in the vault (9.450), sophomore Kristin Fairburn (Salem, N.H.), who placed fifth in the bars (8.975), junior Cara Chadbourne (New Salem, Mass.), who placed fourth in the floor exercise (9.375) and sixth in the bars (8.950), and freshman Ericca Castagna (Topsfield, Mass.), who placed sixth in the floor exercise (9.350).
