No. 12 Field Hockey Slips Past Wheaton, 3-2
, -- September 25, 2004 -- Springfield College junior midfielder Meghan Bascetta (Granby, Conn.)
scored the game-winning goal with six seconds remaining in the game to propel the No. 12 Pride past Wheaton College, 3-2, this afternoon in a New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Benedum Field.
After a scoreless first half, SC freshman forward Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine)
tallied the first score of the game at the 33:55 mark to put the Pride up 1-0. The Lyons answered right back with a goal from freshman forward Lyndsie Ryalls with 27:08 remaining in the half.
Freshman forward Sara Dimick notched a goal off a feed from Ryalls to give Wheaton (3-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) a 2-1 lead with 9:59 remaining to play.
Senior midfielder Erin Bosch (Shoreham, N.Y.)
tied the game with 3:00 minutes remaining in the game, to set up Bascetta’s last-second heroics, to send the Pride to it’s third-straight win.
SC (7-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) outshot the Lyons 37-6 on the afternoon.
The Pride is back in action on Wednesday, September 29, when it travels to Trinity College for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match.
