SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- May 15, 2008 -- The first day of the ECAC Division III Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships at Springfield College's Blake Track is complete. Weather conditions went from overcast to sunny in the afternoon, and then remained pleasant and cool through the evening. The women's hammer did not finish until 9:30 pm.

Here are the team scores through five events. Please note that complete results have been posted above in this space, and individual champions have been posted below.

Among individuals, five champions were crowned.

The first points of the meet on the women's side were scored in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The winner was Wendy Pavlus of St. Lawrence with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:48.03. Later in the 10,000 meters, Kim Partee of nearby Amherst won with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 37:10.02. The javelin was won by Elisha Jones of Waynesburg with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 41.71 meters (136-10). Later in the evening, Anna Heim of Moravian kept it interesting by finishing first, continually upping her winning mark to an NCAA provisional qualifying 3.87 meters (12-8 1/4). Finally, Julia Hopson of Fredonia State won the final event of the evening, the women's hammer, with an NCAA qualifying mark of 57.25 meters (187-10), which was well past the second-place finish of 50.97 meters (167-3) by Aline Thomas of MIT.

The following includes all the Heptathlon results through Day 1. Four events have been completed --the 100 hurdles, the high jump, the shot put, and the 200. Here are the results through Day 1.

Jamie Landry, Rochester -- 2791 pts.; Rama Bah, Lehman -- 2604; Marlee Berg, Westfield State -- 2432; Morgan Jamiel, Wheaton (Mass.) -- 2425; Leena Peters-Uitto, Plattsburgh State -- 2423; Sarah Nolet, Tufts -- 2407; Andrea Ferri, Tufts -- 2332. Note that #1-seeded Christiana Taylor of Cabrini scratched.

From a Springfield College point of view, sophomore Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) finished fifth in the 100 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 12.52 seconds. By the same token, senior Ashley Palmer (Holyoke, Mass.) finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdle preliminaries. Both finals will take place on Friday. In events that were completed this evening, sophomore Amanda DiPaolo (Garrison, N.Y.) took fourth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:46.73. And junior Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) placed seventh in the hammer with an NCAA provisional mark of 46.20 meters (151-7). DiPaolo scored five points, Bishop two, for Springfield's seven points.

Friday's events will start at Blake Track with the decathlon high hurdles and the heptathlon long jump at 10:00 am. The last scheduled event is the 4x400 women's relay at 4:20 pm
