Springfield, Mass. -- September 29, 2009 -- Following its loss at Alfred University last Saturday, the Springfield College football team fell one spot in the latest New England Division III weekly football poll. The Pride finds itself at No. 2 behind Trinity, and just ahead of WPI and Plymouth State.Springfield College, now 2-1, had been ranked No. 1 after one week of the poll last week. But SC lost at Alfred, 49-28, allowing Trinity (1-0) to move up two notches to No. 1. WPI (3-1), which was No. 2 last week, also fell a notch to No. 3. Plymouth State (3-1) moved up one spot to No. 4. Williams (1-0) and Amherst (1-0) also moved up one spot each to fifth and sixth, respectively.
Rounding out this week's Top 10 are Bridgewater State (3-1) at No. 7, Husson (2-1) at No. 8, followed by a 9th-place tie between Curry (2-2) and Framingham State (3-1).
Springfield had won ts first two games of the 2009 season over Fitchburg State (55-7) at home, and King's College (Pa.) (57-30) on the road.
Next Saturday, SC continues its road show as it travels to Utica for a 1:00 pm Empire 8 contest.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
