Wesleyan Edges Women's Soccer, 3-2, In Overtime
Box scoreSPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 7, 2004 –Wesleyan University freshman Nicole Gray scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift the Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over Springfield College in a non-conference women’s soccer match this afternoon on Brock Affleck Field.
For SC, senior forward
Molly Desroches (Belchertown, Mass.) scored her 25th-career goal to move into a tie for ninth place in SC’s career goal scoring list. Desroches is tied with Beth Bowler, who scored 25 times from 1994 to 1997.
Wesleyan broke a scoreless tie when Gray’s shot found the right corner of the net to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute. Desroches evened the score a 1-1 with her team-leading eighth goal in the 76th minute, but Wesleyan junior midfielder Natalie Cohen collected a loose ball in front of the SC net to give the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage at 78:52. Amanda Nealon (East Falmouth, Mass.) sent the match into overtime when she converted a feed from junior back
Nora Clark (Springfield, Mass.) with just 2:10 left. In the extra session, Gray carried the ball into the SC end and tallied the decisive goal in the 98th minute.
