Men's Track & Field Look For Another Championship Season in '03-'04

Despite the loss of 10 seniors from a squad that has won the last two Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship titles, the Springfield College men’s track and field team has its sights set high on another championship season.

“We hope to be competitive at the top levels in the conference, New England and the Northeast region,” said heach coach Ken Klatka. “We have a lot of depth this year and, with the help of some promising freshmen and the maturation of our veterans, this year’s team will be exciting to watch.”

At the top of the list of returnees is All-American and Division III New England Champion long jumper Blake Gulino, a junior. Also returning after earning All-New England honors last year are: seniors Art Fredericks (sprints), Jason Jackson (sprints), Pawel Jaroszewicz (sprints), Sean Kupiec (sprints), Jason Mandolesi (shot put) and Brian Pearsall (middle distance); juniors Steve Wilson (middle distance) and Matt Acciaioli (shot put); and sophomores Chris Keyser (sprints) and Billy King (sprints).

Coach Klatka will also look to several freshmen to make an immediate impact: Dan Hall and Alex Kampersol (shot, discus); Brad Belley, and Cameron Turchetti (javelin); Scott Viafore (javelin, triple jump); Chris Allen and Jeff Coagan (high jump); Dave Ferrette (high jump, 400); Tony Larkin (hurdles); Scott Fitzgerald (sprints); and Brian Rose, Peter Gann and Patrick DeRocco (middle distance).
