Finishing first was Williams with 151 points. The top 10 was rounded out by MIT 92, Coast Guard 87, Springfield 58, Tufts 49, Bowdoin 36, Bates 35, Southern Maine and WPI 32, and Westfield State 30.
For Springfield, 13 different men earned All-New England status a total of 18 times. One had to finish in the top eight in order to qualify for All-New England.
One Pride competitor finished first. That was senior John Lewis (Fitchburg, Mass.) in the discus (152-feet 5-inches). He scored 10 points for his efforts. Lewis also placed eighth in the hammer throw (163-4).
Placing second in the 100 meters was sophomore Steve Headley (Wilbraham, Mass.) with a time of 10.75. Freshman Nickel Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) had a good afternoon on Saturday. He finished fifth in the 400 meters (50.34). He also participated in the 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay that each finished third. Others in the 4x100 relay (42.86) included sophomore Matt Amendola (Milford, Conn.), freshman Jeff Bruno (Stoneham, Mass.), and freshman Tom Brognano (Rome, N.Y.). Others in the 4x400 relay (3:23.11) included senior Tim Rehm (Waldwick, N.J.), junior Chris Okerblom (Salisbury, Md.), and freshman Chris Quetant (Milford, Conn.).
In the steeplechase, freshman Brian Fuller (Ludlow, Mass.) placed fifth with a time of 9:36.26.
In the field events, senior Mike Miller (Storrs, Conn.) was held out of the decathlon, but he did compete and finish third in the pole vault (14-9), fifth in the high jump (6-2 3/4), and sixth in the long jump (21-0). In the triple jump, senior Nick DeCelle (Mechanicville, N.Y.) placed sixth with a leap of 45-0 1/4. Finally, in the hammer, senior Dom Uguccioni (Colrain, Mass.) placed sixth with a toss of 172-11.
All the above marks were good enough to earn All-New England status.
Up next, SC qualifiers will compete in the New England Open Division meet at the University of New Hampshire in Durham (May 8-9-10). Next week (May 15-16), the Springfield men and women will host the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships at its own Blake Track on campus.
