Men's Soccer Edges Westfield State, 1-0, In Double OT
, Sept. 4, 2004 – Springfield College sophomore forward Matt Aucoin (Canton, Mass.)
scored the match’s only goal :20 into the second overtime to propel the Pride past Westfield State, 1-0, in the season opener for both teams on Brock Affleck Field.
Aucoin’s decisive tally came off a feed from sophomore midfielder Matt Sullivan (Springfield, Mass.)
. This is the second consecutive season that SC, which started five freshmen this afternoon, defeated the Owls in double overtime in the season opener. In 2003, the Pride captured a 2-1 victory in Westfield.
The Owls nearly ended the match in the 83rd minute on a scoring chance by sophomore forward Dave Nalewanksi, but his shot hit the post.

, a junior, and B.J Sturdivant (Bear, Del.)
, a freshman, faced 11 shots in the shutout. Sturdivant, who made two saves in 56 minutes, was credited with the victory.
