



Complete ResultsCambridge, Mass. - January 18, 2009 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team fell to conference rivals MIT and Coast Guard on Sunday afternoon in a tri-meet hosted at MIT. The MIT score was 197.5 to 100.5. The Coast Guard final tally was 194-106.
Leading the way in the meet was the diving unit, led byBrian Sobel, who continued to have a tremendous season under head coach Pete Avdoulos. Sobel won the one-meter with a 334.50 and was followed by Matt Fitzgerald (294.59) and Tyler Gunningsmith (223.12). On the three-meter, Sobel was once again victorious with a 340.65, while Fitzgerald posted a 258.52 and Gunningsmith a 234.98.
In the swimming events, the Pride went without a individual victory, but had several second place finishes. Ryan Mackstutis placed second in the 100 breast in 1:01.02 and the 200 breast in 2:14.57. Brian Way finished second in the 200 fly in 1:59.75.

John Taffe enters his 24th season in 2012-2013 as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at Springfield College. Under Taffe’s leadership, the Pride has returned to its status as one of the best collegiate swimming and diving programs in Division III. Read more.
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013.
