Shaw, Avdoulos Honored By NEWMAC
WORCESTER, Mass., March 3, 2004 -- Springfield College sophomores
Mike Shaw and
Sara Tremblay were named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Divers of the Year in men's and women’s swimming & diving, respectively.
Shaw, an All-American who hails from
Westfield, Mass., earns the honor for the second-consecutive season. He captured the one-meter (487.00) and the three-meter diving championships (506.75, NEWMAC record) as the Pride finished third at the NEWMAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships at Art Linkletter Natatorium last weekend (Feb. 27-29). Shaw will compete for national championships in both events at the NCAA Division III Championships on March 16-21 in St. Peters, Mo.
Tremblay, who is from
Agawam, Mass., won the one-meter championship (341.75) and placed second in three-meter diving (384.15) at the NEWMAC Women’s Championships (Feb. 20-22) in Cambridge, Mass., helping SC win its fourth-straight title.
SC’s
Peter Avdoulos was named the NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year for the second-straight season. The best diving coach in Division III, Avdoulos has won the NCAA Division III Women’s Diving Coach-of-the-Year Award four times, most recently in 2002, and has been selected the New England Diving Coach of the Year seven times since 1991.

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
