Notary Brothers Named To Verizon All-Academic Team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 29, 2003 – Springfield College seniors Jon Notary and Mike Notary were both named to the Verizon Academic All-District I Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team.

Mike and Jon are both from Bethlehem, Pa., and, as academic all-district selections, they move on to the Academic All-America ballot for track & field/cross country. The team will be announced on June 17.

Mike has a 3.93 grade-point average (g.p.a.) as a business management major. He was a second-team all-conference selection in the 800 meters, and a NEWMAC All-Academic Team selection. Mike was part of SC’s 4 X 400 meter relay team that placed second (3:18.41) in the 2003 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship helping the Pride captured its second-consecutive ECAC crown this season. He finished 17th at the NEWMAC Cross-Country Championship (Nov. 2).

Jon, who was an academic all-district selection in 2002, carries a 3.91 g.p.a. in business management. He won the 400-meter dash (49.43) at the Division III New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 3). Jon was honored as a second-team all-NEWMAC selection in the 4 X 400 meter relay, and was also a three-year member of the cross-country team.

To be eligible for the Verizon Academic District I team, a student-athlete must play at a Division II or III institution based in New England or New York. The student-athlete must have a minimum 3.2 g.p.a. and be a starter or significant reserve on his team. The team is voted on by the sports information directors of those institutions.
