Bravo Earns Conference and National Player of the Week Honors

Bravo Earns Weekly Player of the Week Honors Springfield, Mass. - April 19, 2010 - After powering the Springfield College men's volleyball to its' sixth national title over the weekend, Alberto Bravo picked up a pair of weekly honors as he was selected as the EIVA Tait Conference Player of the Week as well as the Sports Imports/AVCA Men’s Division III National Player of the Week.

Bravo, a 6-3 right side hitter for then-No. 2 Springfield College, had a standout weekend as Springfield was crowned the national champions. He earned the awards for his stellar efforts in leading the Pride to their sixth Molten Division III Men’s Invitational Volleyball Championship title this past weekend, earning tournament MVP honors along the way.

The junior began the weekend by drubbing 13 kills to go along with six digs and three service aces in Springfield’s sweep of then-No. 15 Carthage in the tournament semifinals.

Bravo saved his best for last, notching a double-double of a career-best 24 kills and 11 digs to catapult the Pride to a four-set victory over then-No. 3 UC Santa Cruz in the championship final. He also tallied four blocks and an ace in the match.

For the week, Bravo averaged 5.29 kills, 2.43 digs and 6.14 points per game. This marks the 17th time a Springfield player has been awarded Sports Imports/AVCA Men’s Division III National Player of the Week accolades, with Mark Ribeiro netting the school’s last honor March 2, 2009.

As for conference player of the week, this is the fifth time this season that Springfield earned the Tait Player of the Week, as Cal Palumbo and Alistair Matthews each won once, and the Division IIII National Player of the Year, AJ Nally, won the award twice.
