Men's Swimming & Diving Falls To D-II Southern Connecticut
NEW HAVEN, Conn.
, Oct. 30, 2004- For the second consecutive meet, reigning Division III national champion Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.)
won the one and three meter diving events, but the Pride fell to D-II Southern Connecticut, 153-145, at Hutchinson Natatorium.
Shaw registered winning scores of 266.00 in the one-meter competition and 250.50 in the three-meter dive. Freshman Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda)
captured first place in the 50 free (21.91) and 100 back (54.16). Senior Luis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.)
placed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.60. Junior Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.)
had one first-place finish to go along with two second-place finishes. Moran won the 1000 free (10:03.06) and placed second in the 500 free (4:54.07) and 200 butterfly (1:59.02). Senior captain Tim Ryan (Hatboro, Penn.)
posted a second-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 2:01.68.
On the women’s side, freshman Dana Allen (Agawam, Mass.)
won two competitons for the Pride this past weekend against Southern Connecticut and Central Connecticut. Allen won the one-meter and three-meter diving events with scores of 232.20 and 235.05, respectively.
SC finished third in the tri-meet, which was won by Division I Central Connecticut.
Senior All-American Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.)
placed second in the 500 free (5:14.08), 100 back (1:01.38) and 200 back (2:11.86). Junior Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.)
was second in the 50 free (25.53).
Next up for the Pride is University of Rhode Island on Sat, Nov. 13, at Linkletter Natatorium.

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014.
