West Palm Beach, Fla. - March 17, 2009 - Erin Doolan netted a hat trick, including a goal just 52 seconds into the game, as she led the Springfield College women's lacrosse team to a 12-3 victory over UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon in its first game during its Spring Break trip.
With the win, Springfield improves to 2-2 on the year. Springfield dominated the game as it raced out to an 11-0 halftime lead, outshooting the Corsairs 17-2 in the frame. With an 11-goal advantage, head coach Regan Denham inserted plenty of new faces into the game, some which received their first action of the season.
After Doolan's strike with less than a minute off the clock, she scored again 37 seconds later to give SC a 2-0 advantage. The Pride then went on to rattle off eight goals over the next 13 minutes to take a 10-0 lead. Jackie Moscardelli, Kaeleigh Lannan, Brittany LeGuelaff, Kaitlyn Hernandez, Heather Dobson, and Jenna Bugbee each scored in the eight-goal spurt for the Pride. Brittany Massaro scored Springfield's final goal of the first stanza as she scored an unassisted goal with 2:57 on the clock.
In the second half, the Corsairs got on the board with the first three goals of the second half. However, that would be as close as they would get as Springfield's lead was too much to overcome. Doolan pumped in her final goal of the game with 39 seconds remaining as Springfield took the 12-3 decision.
Lauren McAulay earned the start in the cage and needed to make just one save in the first 30 minutes of play. Katlyn Lavin then came in during the second half and recorded nine saves between the pipes for the Pride.
