



Complete ResultsNew London, Conn - March 28, 2009 - In its outdoor season-opener, the Springfield College men's track and field team finished third on Saturday at the Coast Guard Invitational. Coast Guard won the meet with 171.50 points, followed by Westfield State's score of 131. The Pride rounded out the competition with a mark of 93.50.
In his first competition since winning the 55 meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Steve Headley set a school record and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a time 10.54 in the 100 meters. Headley also anchored Springfield's 4x100 relay team of Matt Amendola, Tom Brognano, and Nickel Hay that placed first after crossing in 42.21.
Chris Quetant won the 400 in 50.02 and Brian Fuller won the 5,000 in 15:13.20 as both qualified for New Englands. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Kyle Moriarty took first with a 10:15.76.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
