Wrestling Still Ranked No.1 in NEWA Poll

Ryan McGilvray Bristol, R.I. -- January 11, 2011 -- The Springfield College wrestling team is still ranked No. 1 in the latest New England Wrestling Association Division III Coaches poll, released on Monday afternoon. Springfield accumulated 13 of the 14 first-place votes, and has a 17-point lead over No. 2 Johnson & Wales University.

The Pride totaled 137 points to be ranked No. 1 in the latest poll. SC is 1-0 in dual-meet competition. Johnson & Wales is ranked No. 2 with 120 points. Wesleyan University is No. 3 with 114 points.

Ranked fourth through 10th are Williams College with the lone remaining first-place vote and 105 points, followed by Bridgewater State (77), Plymouth State (76), Roger Williams (50), Southen Maine (40), Rhode Island College (39), and the Coast Guard Academy (14).

Trinity is the only other school to have received votes.

Last Saturday, Springfield finished first in the Roger Williams Invitational in Bristol, R.I. Four of its wrestlers won individual crowns in different weight classes. They included Ryan McGilvray at 149, John Archambeau at 165, Brandon Sundwall at 174, and Nicholas Camera at 184.

Up next for SC are the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. on Friday and Saturday, January 14-15.
