



Ithaca, N.Y. -- November 4, 2011 -- In Jason Holder's coaching debut, the Springfield College wrestling team opened its 2011-12 season tonight by competing in the Ithaca Invitational. After the first day of competition, the Pride found itself in third place with 82 points.The remainder of the team scores were as follows: Ithaca 94 points, Thiel 89, Springfield 82, Oswego 80, Johnson & Wales 76, Centenary 71.5, NYU 55.5, Norwich 47, Alfred State 27.
Ithaca is ranked fourth nationally as a team, Springfield 25th. SC is ranked #1 in New England.
Five Springfield College wrestlers remained unbeaten through Day 1. They were Tom Casper at 125 pounds, Corey Kozimor at 141, Eric Hamrick at 149, Derrick Longo at 174, and Nicholas Camera at 184.
Day 2 begins at 10 am Saturday, with championship competition beginning at 4 pm.

Jason Holder will enter his second season as head wrestling coach in 2012. Holder had a standout first season at the helm of the Pride, leading Springfield to the NEWA Duals Championship and taking three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
