Keene, N.H. - March 22, 2011 - Allie Davis and Jackie Moscardelli combined for 11 goals to lead the Springfield College women's lacrosse team to a 20-14 shootout win at Keene State on Tuesday evening.
Springfield now stands at 3-1 on the season, while the Owls drop to 1-3.
Davis continued to lead the Springfield offense as she poured in five goals and added two assists for a team-best seven points. Moscardelli, who had combined for three goals in the last three games, combined for six goals. Meghan Flanagan added a hat trick and Kelly Gallo posted two goals and two assists. Moscardelli also registered four ground balls and four draw controls, and Anne Versprille earned the save in goal after totaling eight saves.
Keene Stat was led by the senior trio of Jill Kirk, Jamie Albert and Lauren Sawyer . Kirk and Albert netted four and three goals respectively while Sawyer had two goals and five assists.
The Owls scored three of the first four goals of the game to go up 3-1. After a free position goal by Albert tied the score at 8-all, Springfield scored the last five goals of the half to go up 12-8 at the break.
Keene State cut the lead to 13-10 on consecutive goals by Caitlyn Corace and Sawyer early in the second half, but a pair of goals off the stick of Moscardelli pushed the Prides lead back up to 15-10.
A free-position strike from Davis with just under 12 minutes to go in the game ballooned Springfield's lead to seven at 19-12 as the Pride held on for a 20-14 victory.
Springfield will open up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon when it travels to square off against rival Wheaton College for a 1:00 pm game.
