Women's Soccer Picks Up Big NEWMAC Victory

Amanda Nealon, Springfield College defeated Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 3-0, tonight at WPI’s Alumni Field in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference contest.
With the win, SC raises its record to 6-9-2 overall, and 4-4-1 in the NEWMAC. The Pride, which has 14 points, moved into sixth place in the NEWMAC, just one point of a three-way tie for third between Babson, Smith and MIT. WPI falls to 10-6-2 overall, and 5-3-1 in the NEWMAC.
The game’s first goal was scored with 15:25 remaining in the first half by
Nealon, a junior forward from
East Falmouth, Mass. She had worked her way down the left side after she had taken a nice pass from senior midfielder
Molly Desroches (Belchertown, Mass.). Nealon then put the shot cleanly away from about 12 yards out.
In the second half, towards game’s end, Nealon was pulled down in the penalty box. She then converted the penalty kick with 10:07 left in the contest.
Then just 1:20, senior forward
Jessica Kovacs (Dalton, Mass) put in a rebound after sophomore midfielder
Allison Barendse (Utica, N.Y.) had hit the crossbar with a shot.
For SC, junior
Christina Davis (Newington, Conn.) recorded the shutout, making two saves.
