



Middletown, Conn. -- Sept. 28, 2011 -- The Springfield College football team fell one spot to a #2 ranking in the latest New England Division III Football Coaches poll. SC now trails 4-0 Endicott in the poll.The Pride is now 2-1 following its 30-22 loss at #12-ranked Alfred last Saturday in New York. Alfred is still unbeaten this season, and is the defending Empire 8 league champion.
In the top spot in the New England poll is Endicott with a 4-0 record and with 16 of 22 first-place votes. The Gulls have accumulated 210 points and were in second place a week ago.
Up next is Springfield with one first-place vote and 167 points. In third is Williams (1-0) with four first-place votes and 165 points. In fourth is Maine Maritime (3-0) with 149 points. In fifth is Trinity (1-0) with one first-place vote and 133 points.
The second five consists of Worcester State (4-0) with 127 points, Amherst (1-0) with 94 points, Curry (3-1) with 73 points, Western New England (3-1) with 43 points, and Wesleyan (1-0) with 13 points.
Also receiving votes was Salve Regina with 12 points.
Springfield will be playing at Kings Point on Long Island this Saturday (Oct. 1) at 2 pm.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
