



Springfield, Mass. -- December 9, 2010 -- John Carlson and Cody Flanigan of the Springfield College football team have been named to the 2010 D3football.com All-East Region Third Team. Springfield College finished 9-2 overall, including winning the ECAC Division III North Atlantic Championship Bowl over Mount Ida to cap the season.Carlson is a senior offensive tackle from Cromwell, Conn. Flanigan is a senior defensive end from Auburn, N.Y. Both were captains on this year's squad.
Carlson was named All-New England First Team Division II/III in 2009. He was named First Team All-Empire 8 this season, and was recently named a captain of the North team in the D3 Senior Classic All-Star Game played in Salem, Virginia last Friday (Dec. 3), a game which the North won, 26-18. Carlson was part of a Springfield College offensive line which finished third nationally in rushing offense in Division III with 389.0 average yards per game.
Flanigan was also named All-New England First Team Division II/III in 2009. He was named First Team All-Empire 8 this season. Flanigan finished the season with 0.95 sacks per game, which was first in the Empire 8, and tied for 18th in the nation. He was fourth on the SC team in tackles with 56. He led SC with 15 tackles-for-loss (58 yards) and 11.5 sacks (49 yards) in the regular season. He also had two fumble recoveries.
As a team, the Pride won nine games in 2010, only the sixth time in Springfield College history that it had won as many as nine games in a season. It finished 3-2 in the rugged Empire 8 Conference, and finished 10th in the Lambert Cup (East), and second in the New England Football Coaches poll behind only unbeaten Williams (8-0).

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
