Torvi Earns Weekly Honors From D3VB and NEWMAC

Torvi Racks Up Weekly Honors Secaucus, N.J. - September 26, 2011 - After leading Springfield to five wins last week, including capturing the MIT Invitational crown, senior Lauren Torvi was named both the D3VB National Player of the Week and the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week.

This marks the second time this season that the North Smithfield, R.I. native earned the weekly conference honor.

Torvi continued to shine for Springfield as she powered the Pride to its first MIT Invitational Championship since 1995. In four wins at the MIT Invitational and a mid-week victory over Clark, Torvi combined to hit .459, connecting on 69 kills to go along with 24 blocks.

She started the week off with 16 kills at an .842 clip against Clark, before tallying 13 kills while hitting .722 in the opening match of the Invitational versus Regis. She followed that up with 10 kills and seven blocks against Williams before tallying 13 kills and eight blocks against Tufts. In the championship match, Torvi posted 17 kills to lead Springfield past Connecticut College.

Springfield, which was ranked 25th in the country last week, now stands at 15-0 and is off to the best start in program history.
