Hay Honored as ECAC Division III Co-Track Athlete of the Week

- Springfield College junior Nikki Hay
was selected as the ECAC Division III Co-Track Athlete of the Week after a terrific individual performance in a five-way meet hosted by Springfield College on Saturday afternoon.
Hay, who won the long jump, triple jump, the 55-meter dash, and the 200-meter dash, led the Pride to victory as it scored a meet best 219 points.
She shared the award with Jacqui Wentz from MIT, who became the first women to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in the
5,000 meters, with a time of 17:05.20.
The Norwalk, Conn. native won the long jump with a distance of 17-04.75, over a foot farther than the next competitor, and won the triple jump with a distance of 38-01.50, almost four feet longer than any other competitor. In the 55 meter dash, Hay (7.36) was one of the Pride's top three finishers, while her final win of the day came as she blew past the competition in the 200 meters with a time of 26.16, winning by more than two seconds.

Jim Pennington enters his 30th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2013-2014. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
