Field Hockey Head Coach Melissa Rogers Named Region's Top Coach
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Dec. 7, 2004 - Springfield College head field hockey coach
Melissa Rogers was named the 2004 Dita/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III New England East Region Coach of the Year.
In just her first season at the helm of the Pride, Rogers led SC to19-4 record, to go along with a No. 9 final national ranking, the team's first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title in four years, and a bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. She was recognized as the NEWMAC Coach of the Year this season as well.
Rogers, a native of Southwick, Mass., is the first player ever to receive NEWMAC Player of the Year honors (2001) and NEWMAC Coach of the Year accolades (2004).

Kim Stevens and
Lindsey Pardue were both recognized as ECAC Division III Field Hockey All-Stars after the pair was also named to the STX/National Field Hockey Association (NFHCA) All-America First Team.
Stevens, a native of
Knox, Maine, was named the NEWMAC Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection this fall. A second-team All-American in 2003, she also garnered first-team All-New England honors for the past two seasons. Stevens ranked sixth on the Pride with 16 points (six goals, four assists) from her center-back position.
Pardue, from
Houston, Texas, joined Stevens on the All-NEWMAC and All-New England First Teams this fall. The conference leader in save percentage (.892, 4th nationally), goals against average (0.94, 10th nationally), and winning percentage (.864, 9th nationally), she was credited with 10 shutouts, including five-straight entering the postseason. Pardue was credited with a season-high 25 saves versus eventual national-runner up Middlebury (9/14).

After eight years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Sharpe, has continued the SC tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 120-58 record, good for a winning percentage of .674 at the helm of her alma mater.
