Men's Swimming & Diving Easily Handles Babson, 135-94

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – January 27, 2007 – The Springfield College men’s swimming & diving team defeated Babson this afternoon, 135-94, at SC’s Art Linkletter Natatorium.

With the win, Springfield raised its record to 4-8, halting a streak of four straight losses. Babson, meanwhile, fell to 4-10.

Springfield began the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.83. The winning foursome included freshman Ryan Mackstutis (Torrington, Conn.), senior Ryan Mahoney (Westford, Mass.), junior Justin Zook (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), and sophomore Greg Pearsall (Litchfield, Conn.).

Others who won events for the Pride included sophomore Anthony Bruno (Southbury, Conn.) in the 1000 free (10:54.27), senior Paul McCloskey (Brookfield, Conn.) in the 200 free (1:45.54) and the 100 free (48.93), Pearsall in the 50 free (22.61), junior Martin Gullberg (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the 200 IM (2:10.18), Zook in the 500 free (5:07.35), and Matt Manoni in the 100 fly (56.38).

Winners for Babson included freshman Aaron Paradis (Norwich, Conn.) in both the 1-meter dive (255.45), and the 3-meter dive (257.45 points), sophomore Mario Rodriguez (Villahermosa, Mexico) in the 100 back (55.68), and senior Mike Stenman (Windsor, Conn.) in the 100 breast (1:04.23).

Up next, the Springfield men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams will host Amherst next Saturday (Feb. 3) at 1 p.m.
