Men's Track and Field Competes in Snowflake Classic

Brian Fuller Medford, Mass. – March 31, 2012 - The Springfield College men’s track and field team competed in the Snowflake Classic at Tufts University Saturday in a meet that included institutions from all three NCAA Divisions.

Anthony Salvucci was the top finisher for the Pride, winning the 10,000 meter run in 32:12.82. Brian Fuller came in just behind him, finishing fifth at 32:40.60. Ryan O’Connell continued his success in distance events, placing second in the 5,000 meters, as his time of 15:10.56 was just two seconds out of first place. Zach Pietras was also top ten for the 5,000, coming in seventh with a time of 15:27.95.

The Pride had two other strong showings in hurdle events. Nolan Manley placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.95 seconds, and Sam Weiss ran a 17.03 to take seventh in the 110 hurdles. Garrett Sharnick earned an eighth place finish in the 100 meter sprint, crossing the tape in 11.56 seconds.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the Pride foursome of Walker Smith, Manley, Shane Ireland, and Alejandro Ortiz teamed up for 3:29.30 time and third place overall.

Springfield also earned several top-eight finishers in the field events. Dale Decouta took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.86 meters, Dylan Brock took fourth in the long jump at 6.08 meters, and Orlando Harvey was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 14.69 meters. Jessie Charette added a fifth place finish in the triple jump at 12.90 meters and Brandon Gruver took eighth in the pole vault at 3.85 meters. The Pride will take on Middlebury and Bowdoin next Saturday at Middlebury College.
