Springfield, Mass. - January 23, 2010 - Nikki Hay won the 55, 200, long jump, and triple jump on Saturday afternoon as the Springfield College women's track and field team placed second in its first action in 2010. Bowdoin took first in the meet with 196 points, followed by the Pride, which tallied 162.5 points.
Freshman Crystal Davis also had a terrific day. Davis finished right behind Hay in the 55-meters, crossing the line in 7.69 seconds. Following her strong 55-meter performance, she was able to finish in 27.92 seconds in the 200, good enough for third place.
The 600-meter run was captured by junior Lacey Cartier, finishing in 1:41.25. Freshman Laurie Jenkins finished the 55-meter hurdles in 9.40 seconds, good for third place accolades.
Springfield’s relay teams were also very successful. The 4x200-meter relay team finished in first place with a time of 1:47.30, and the 4x400-meter team finished in second place in 4:26.42.
In the field, sophomore Rose Fatima won the weight throw title with a toss of 48-2 3/4, while finishing second in the shot put throwing 39-6 1/2. Classmate Michelle Angelo finished third in the shot put at 34-7 3/4.
The Pride returns to action next Saturday when it travels to face Southern Maine in Gorham, Me. at noon.
