



Springfield, Mass. - May 6, 2012 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team will head to Buffalo State for the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship, which was announced on Sunday evening on the national selection show.The Pride, which captured the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship for the first time since 2006, will travel nearly 400 miles west to take on Buffalo State on May 9th at 3:00 pm.
This marks Springfield's fourth trip to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse championship, as the Pride previously competed on the national scene in 2002, 2005, and 2006.
Buffalo State owns a 13-6 record, earned their first-ever trip to the NCAA Championship by virtue of an at-large bid into the 33-team field. The Bengals, who are 7-1 at home this season, fell in the SUNYAC Tournament Championship to Cortland, 12-5.
Springfield and Buffalo State have a pair of common opponents this season, as both took on Ithaca and Amherst.
The Bengals fell to Amherst, 16-9 on March 20 and bested Ithaca, 13-12, in overtime on March 28. Springfield dropped a 13-8 decision to Ithaca on March 12 and fell to Amherst, 14-10, on March 28.
The last time Springfield and Buffalo State played was in 2009 when the teams played in a neutral site game at Union. Despite a second-half rally, Springfield lost a 14-10 decision to the Bengals.


Kristen Mullady ‘00, enters her fourth season as the head women’s lacrosse coach at Springfield College. A former standout for Springfield’s women’s lacrosse team, Mullady led Springfield to the NEWMAC Championship in 2012. Read more.
