Springfield 6, Clark 3

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 25, 2003 – Springfield College sophomore midfielder Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine) scored two first half goals to lead an SC offensive explosion as the Pride defeated Clark University, 6-3, this morning in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match at Benedum Field.

With the win, the Pride (11-8, 6-1 NEWMAC) claims sole possession of first place in the NEWMAC.

SC senior midfielder Brianne Tompkins (Stromville, N.Y.) got the scoring started when she found the cage 15 minutes into the contest. Brooker then netted her two goals and senior back Maylese Leyva (Harwich, Mass.) capped the first half scoring for the Pride with a goal with 4:26 left in the period. Clark got on the board with one second left in the opening frame as junior forward Kristina Richio (Portland, Maine) scored off a feed from junior midfielder Ashley Perez (Worcester, Mass.).

Tompkins added another goal in the second half and junior back Kim Stevens (North Knox, Maine) also scored.

The Cougars fall to 10-5 (5-2 NEWMAC).
