NEW LONDON, Conn. Dec. 5, 2004 – Springfield College senior Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I) and freshman Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) helped lead the Pride to first place at the Connecticut College Invitational, Saturday. Arruda finished first in eight events, while Burch won seven as the Pride compiled 832 points to outdistance Coast Guard (589) and Wheaton (333).

Individually, Arruda finished first in the 500 free (4:40.57), 100 butterfly (51.15) and 200 butterfly (1:53.90) while Burch won the 50 free (21.27), 100 back (53.79), and 100 free (47.52).

Burch, who swam legs on four-winning relays, and Arruda, who was part of the five first-place relays, teamed with senior Jeff Doornweerd (Meriden, Conn.) and sophomore Chris LeCompte (Londonderry, N.H.), to win both the 400-free (3:10.74) and 400-medley (3:33.97) relays. Burch, Doornweerd, Arruda, and senior Blake Leshnick (Suffern, N.Y) also took first place in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:37.35

SC junior All-American Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) remained undefeated this season, winning both the one- and three-meter diving events with scores of 291 and 271.20, respectively.

Other first-place finishers for the Pride were Leshnick in the 50 butterfly (23.87), and senior captain Tim Ryan (Hatboro, Pa.) in the 200 backstroke (2:01.83).
