Springfield did well by finishing fourth of six teams with 326.200 points, its highest finish ever in this event. The other three teams ahead of SC and one team immediately behind it were all Division I. The team winner was Penn State with 345.200 points, followed by Temple with 329.500, and Navy with 329.150. Immediately behind Springfield was the host school, Army, at 317.750, followed by MIT at 312.900.
Among individual all-arounders, Springfield did very well, finishing third and fourth among collegians. Freshman Tyler Evans of San Jose, Calif., placed third among collegians, fourth overall with a score of 81.500. Sophomore Josh Fox of Ellicott City, Md. placed fourth among collegians, and fifth overall with an all-around score of 81.250.
Those advancing to Saturday night's individual competition in other apparatus included Fox in the high bar, Fox and Evans in the floor exercise, and senior Matthew Bolognese of Stony Brook, N.Y. in the still rings.
