



Complete ResultsCambridge, Mass. - October 8, 2011 - Sam Carney picked up a win at No. 1 singles but it was the MIT women's tennis team that prevailed over Springfield College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
The Pride drop to 3-6, 1-5 in league play as it ends a busy week in which it played four matches. MIT, which is ranked 22nd in the nation, improves to 5-1 this season.
Carney grinded out a terrific win at No. 1 singles as she won 2-6, 6-3, 12-10. The Pride's top performance in doubles play came at the No. 3 spot as Erin Woodbury and Siana Green dropped a tough 9-8 (7-4) decision.
Springfield will play again on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to take on Mount Holyoke in conference play.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
