



Springfield, Mass. - November 4, 2009 - The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 men’s cross country award winners on Wednesday.Springfield coach Peter Ferraro was named the NEWMAC Coach of the Year as he helped lead the Pride to a second-place showing at Saturday’s NEWMAC Championship. Clark University was selected as the league’s Sportsmanship Award winner. The individual awards, along with the NEWMAC All-Conference team, were doled out following the Championship meet. Hemagiri Arumugam of MIT was named the Runner of the Year while Zach Pietras of Springfield earned Rookie of the Year honors as the top freshman finisher.
A total of four runners for Springfield earned all-conference honors as Brian Fuller, Pietras, David Birdsall, and Troy French all finished in the top 14 at the championship race.

Bryan Brown will enter his second season as the head men's cross country coach in the fall of 2012. Brown, who was a former All-American at Springfield College in track, led Springfield to a second-place finish at the NEWMAC Championships a year ago .
