WEST POINT, N.Y., January 31, 2004 – Springfield College senior Paul Jaroszewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished first in the 500-meter dash (1:07.36) on Saturday at the Howie Indoor Track and Field Invitational at West Point. There were no team scores kept at the meet.

SC junior Matt Accialioli (Warwick, R.I.) won the shot put competition with a throw of 14.99 meters.

Other notable performers in the track events included sophomore Billy King (Wilmington, Mass.) who placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.38) and fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.29); senior Art Fredericks (Wallingford, Conn.), who finished third in the 500-meter dash (1:08.68), and freshman Dave Forrette (Chicopee, Mass.), who placed fourth in the 500-meter dash (1:09.06). SC senior Brian Pearsall (Fairport, N.Y.) finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:00.90).

In the field events, SC freshman Chris Allen (Sandwich, Mass.) was fourth in the long jump (6.54 meters) and third in the high jump (1.94 meters).

On the women’s side, sophomore Meghan Young (Hurley, N.Y.) won the 3,000-meter run (10:40.35) and finished fourth in the one mile run (5:23.40).

SC freshman Natasha Landon (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) placed second in the pole vault setting a school record with a mark of 3.22 meters. Sophomore Sarah Tyman (West Suffield, Conn.) finished in a tie for fourth in the 500-meter dash (1:24.50).

Notables in the field events included senior Leyla Williams (Unionville, N.Y.), who placed second in the weight throw (14.39 meters), and junior Leah Sullivan (Northboro, Mass.), who was second in the shot put (11.49 meters).

SC is back in action on Saturday, February 7, at the Tufts Invitational.
