The six gymnasts from SC include sophomore Ponce (Tolland, Conn.) in the still rings, senior Ty Evans (San Jose, Calif.) in the all-around, freshman Pat Ryther (Boston, Mass.) in the pommel horse, junior Chris Jost (Ashland, Mass.) in the vault and floor exercise, junior Jimmy Pezzino (Buffalo, N.Y.) in the vault and floor exercise, and junior Kevin Miner (Canton, Conn.) in the parallel bars.
Ponce is the highest ranking gymnast from Springfield College in the United States. He is currently ranked 11th in the still rings. Ponce won both the USAG Championships and the ECAC-EIGL Championships in recent weeks in the still rings.
SC's second-highest U.S.rank is held by Pezzino. He is tied for 19th in the floor exercise.
Springfield College is the only Division III school in the U.S.
The team champion will begin its determination on April 19. There will be 12 total teams qualifying. Qualifier I will include Penn State, Stanford, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Iowa. Qualifer II will include Oklahoma, Illinois, Minnesota, California, Temple, and Air Force.
The top three teams from each qualifier will advance to the team finals on April 20.
The top individuals will advance to the individual finals on April 21.
Stanford is the defending team champion.
