Cambridge, Mass. - February 12, 2011 -- A contingent of the Springfield College women's track & field team competed at the MIT Co-ed Invitational this past Saturday in Cambridge. It was a non-scoring meet as far as the team was concerned.
There were several fine performances among individuals by members of the Pride squad.
Jen Kapinos finished first in the 600 meters with a final time of 1:42.27. Moreover, the 4x400 team also placed first in their event with a time of 4:25.74. The 4x400 team included Joy Jennifer, Shannon Park, Bethany Young and Elisa White.
The women competing in the 3000 meter run were outstanding for the Pride. Molly Powell, Katie Burns, and Sissell Holloway all placed in the top three spots. Powell came in first with a time of 11:22.50, Burns second with a time of 11:26.19, and third place went to Sissell with a time of 11:27.74.
The Pride also placed first in several other events, including the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, and the 55-meter hurdles. In the 200-meter dash, Eiri Inoue had a time of 28.56 to place first. The 400-meter dash was won by Vanessa Rosario at 1:05.03. Molly Parshley came through for Springfield with a time of 2:35.55 to win the 800-meter dash. The 55-meter hurdles was dominated by Lisa Trimby with a time of 10.36 seconds who placed first in her section. Kelly Curtis with an 8.82, also placed first in her section.
Earning second-place finishes for the Pride were Samantha Artz in the high jump event. Artz finished with a leap of 1.47 meters. Desiree Perry finished second in her section of the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.24. Colleen Brague placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 12.02 meters. Michelle Angelo was third at 11.65 meters in the same event.
Springfield also did very well in the shot put with Amanda Mullen placing second in 8.11meters. Kelly Pigott also finished second in the 600-meter run with a time of 2:09.13.
