



Springfield, Mass. -- November 18, 2010 -- A total of six Springfield College football players have been named Empire 8 All-Conference as chosen by the six conference head football coaches earlier today. Named First Team All-Empire 8 from Springfield College were John Carlson (OL), Cody Flanigan (DL), and Ken Goodwin (ILB). Named Second Team All-Conference were Antoine King (RB), Sean Meagher (OL), and Chris Kulcsar (DL).Also recognized by the Empire 8 was Springfield College's nominee, running back Joe Myhren (New Hampton, N.Y.), as its Sportsman of the Year.
As a team, Springfield College currently owns an 8-2 overall record, and finished tied for second in the Empire 8 with a 3-2 league mark. The Pride will be playing in the ECAC North Atlantic Championship Bowl game versus Mount Ida College this Saturday (Nov. 20) at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field at 1 pm.
Three of the top winners within the conference came from NCAA automatic qualifier and league champion Alfred University. They included Defensive Player of the Year Nick Clark (LB), Rookie of the Year Austin Dwyer (RB/All-Purpose), and Coach of the Year Dave Murray. The two top winners included Offensive Player of the Year Tim Bailey (QB) from St. John Fisher, and Special Teams Player of the Year Andrew Rogowski (P) from Ithaca College.
The three First Team All-Empire 8 players from the Pride included Carlson, a senior offensive tackle from Cromwell, Conn., Flanigan, a senior defensive tackle from Auburn, N.Y., and Ken Goodwin, a senior inside linebacker from Foxboro, Mass.
The three Second Team All-Empire 8 players from SC included King, a senior running back from Boston, Mass., Meagher, a junior offensive tackle from Cape Elizabeth, Me., and Kulcsar, a senior defensive tackle from Haworth, N.J..

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
