NORTHFIELD, Vt., December 10, 2005 - Springfield College junior Mark DeCiccio (Cranston, R.I.) won an 8-3 decision at 149 pounds over Norwich's Nolan Cisper, but it was the Cadets which defeated the No. 8 Pride in a close dual meet, 18-12, on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 10) at Andrews Hall. DeCiccio, ranked eighth nationally in Division III, improved his overall record to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in dual meet action.
To begin the dual meet, Norwich came out with three-straight victories, picking up wins at 125, 133 and 141 pounds to take a 9-0 lead. After the DeCiccio victory, the Cadets won the next two bouts, at 157 and 165 pounds to take a 15-3 lead. The Pride responded, however, winning the next three bouts to cut the lead to 15-12.
SC senior Scott Faivre (East Islip, N.Y.) started the comeback with a 9-2 win at 174 pounds. Sophomore Jason Noonan (Mansfield, Mass.) then took a 12-5 decision at 184 pounds, and senior Jason Leckey (Guilford, Conn.) won at 197 pounds (8-4). The Pride's comeback fell just short, however, as Norwich's Cody Lightfoot won a 5-3 heavyweight bout over SC freshman Stephen Mendozzi (Cranston, R.I.) to give the Cadets the 18-12 upset victory.
SC falls to 1-1 in dual meets this season as the Pride will next host Cortland on Tuesday afternoon, January 10, in a 1:00 p.m. start.
