



Springfield, Mass. -- April 15, 2010 -- The Springfield College women's tennis team, led by Sam Carney and Amy Shaw, defeated Roger Williams University, 7-2, this afternoon at SC's Appleton Courts, thus ending its 2009-2010 season on a high note.With the win, SC finished at 3-13. RWU falls to 9-9.
Carney of Franklin, Mass., who recently took over the No. 1 singles slot as a freshman, won her match over junior Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn), 6-0, 6-1. Carney is the reigning NEWMAC Rookie of the Year. Shaw, a junior from Walpole, Mass., also won at No. 2 singles over freshman Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-2.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
