NEW LONDON, Conn., Jan. 29, 2005 – Led by senior All-American
Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.), the Springfield College women’s swimming and diving team knocked off Coast Guard 131-103, Saturday.
Skinner swam to first place in both the 200 individual medley (2:19.03) and 500 free. Her time of 5:15.06 broke the Coast Guard pool record of 5:15.72 that she set in 2003.
Seniors
Lauren Van Laethem (North Reading, Mass.) and
Emily Strout (Edgecomb, Maine) teamed with juniors
Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.) and
Alicia Hart (West Hartford, Conn.) to capture first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:00.39.
Other first-place finishes for the Pride included
Emily Sheahan (Erin, N.Y.) in the 1,000 free (10:55.60) and sophomore
Meaghan O’Hara (Bedford, N.H.) in the 200 back (2:14.88)
SC swept the top-two places in both the diving events as
Andrea Babcock (Wayland, Mass.) won the one-meter competition (250.58) and freshman
Dana Allen (Agawam, Mass.) won on the three meter (251.85).
On the men’s side, the 400-free relay team of seniors
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I) and
Blake Leshnick (Suffern, N.Y.), sophomore
Chris LeCompte (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman
Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) came out victorious in the last race of the meet to give SC a 125-118 win over Coast Guard.
Arruda and Burch also posted individual first-place finishes. Arruda won the 200 butterfly in (1:58.73) and Burch in the 50 free (21.76).
Junior All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) captured first place in both the one- and three-meter diving competitions with scores of 303.53 and 301.81, respectively.

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
