Swimming & Diving Teams Fall At Willams
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., Jan. 22, 2005 – The Springfield College diving duo of junior All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) and freshman
Ben Casavant (Acton, Mass.) swept the one- and three-meter diving events, but it was host Williams College defeating the Pride, 182-116, in men’s swimming and diving action, Saturday.
Shaw’s winning one-meter score of 308.70 broke a 16-year old school record set by David Roth (305.85) in 1989. Casavant was victorious in three-meter (300.75) while finishing runner-up on one-meter (308.70).
Senior
Jeff Doornweerd (Meriden, Conn.) and freshman
Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) each picked up a first place finish for the Pride, winning the 50 free (21.72) and 100 free (47.37), respectively. They then teamed with sophomore
Chris LeCompte (Londonderry, N.H.) and
Ryan Mahoney (Westford, Mass.) to win the 400 free relay in 3:11.43.
On the women’s side, freshman
Dana Allen (Agawam, Mass.) and graduate student
Andrea Babcock (Wayland, Mass.) finished 1-2 in both the one- and three-meter diving events, but it was host Williams College downing the Pride, 179-114.
Allen’s winning scores were 259.88 in the one-meter and 275.1 in three-meter, while Babcock was credited with 243.98 and 245.10, respectively.
SC’s 400 free-relay team, consisting of senior All-American
Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.), juniors
Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.) and
Alicia Hart (West Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore
Meagan O’Hara (Bedford, N.H.) swam to victory in 3:45.20.

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014. The current NEWMAC Women's and Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
